From Dr. Thorndike’s LinkedIn Page …
I am the Chief Science Officer at BeHealth Solutions, LLC and an Assistant Professor in the Behavioral Health and Technology program area at the University of Virginia (UVA) Health System. My research interests include the development and evaluation of Internet interventions for various medical and behavioral health problems, including insomnia, post-traumatic stress, encopresis, diabetes, and self-management of cancer-related symptoms. I have been conducting research in the field of Internet interventions since 2002. Prior to working at UVA and BeHealth Solutions, I collaborated with Dr. Brett Litz at Boston University on the development and evaluation of an Internet intervention for service members with PTSD brought on by either the 9-11 attack on the Pentagon or the Iraq War. At UVA, I have served as a co-investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health-funded studies utilizing technology to increase access to treatment, including the insomnia Internet intervention (SHUTi: Sleep Healthy Using the Internet, pronounced shut-eye). I have published multiple peer-reviewed papers in the area of using technology to deliver effective interventions; given talks to both national and international audiences; and have been covered in popular press outlets like Good Morning America and Wall Street Journal.
At BeHealth Solutions, I serve as the Chief Science Officer. Our company is committed to expanding public access to the technology-based interventions that are proving effective in research trials. We are focused on ensuring that proven interventions do not sit on the proverbial research shelf, but instead make it into the hands of the very people who need them. My role at BeHealth Solutions is to make certain that the broad implementation and dissemination of our evidence-based online interventions continues to adhere to the strict scientific and clinical standards we set forth in developing the company.
